Sushil Paul 1916 - 2006
Sushil Paul was born on Jan 14, 1916 in Faridpur (East Bengal) in a Bengali family. He was the eldest of his siblings and had a penchant for fine arts from childhood. One day while he was still in high school (Hindu School, Calcutta, India) he went to Shantiniketan with his uncle Pramode Ranjan Pal and met Nandalal Bose in Kala Bhavan. That day was a turning point in his life and he decided to pursue fine arts as a career.
From the early 1930s when he started studying art in Government School of Art in Calcutta to his last days in 2006 in Bhopal, Sushil Paul has created numerous pieces of art including, but not limited to, sketches, portraits and landscapes which has won many state and national awards and are in collection of prestigious museums in India like Ashutosh Museum in Calcutta.
